There’s a rift between you and God because of stuff you’ve done—wrong conduct, hurtful words, and yes, even evil thoughts or acts. You want to change but you don’t know how. Here are the keys: ask for forgiveness and put your faith in what Jesus accomplished for you.

Jesus was the only one who never did or said anything to hurt God or others. On the cross, he took the punishment the rest of us deserve, including a complete separation from God. Why did Jesus pay this costly price? He wanted us to be reconciled with God. Because he had done nothing wrong, death could not hold him. Three days later he rose from the dead, making a way for us to enter God’s permanent, beautiful home after him.

If you’ve never asked God to give you the free gift of forgiveness through His Son, Jesus Christ, all you need to do is pray this prayer:

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner. I do things to hurt You and other people. Please forgive me. Thank you for your Son Jesus Christ and His death on the cross for my sins. I believe that you raised Him from the dead. I accept Jesus, right now, as my personal Lord and Savior. Please help me to begin to live my life in the way you want me to from this day forward. Send the Holy Spirit of Jesus to live in and with me, so that I might have the power to obey you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Now, because you’re cleansed by Jesus’ act of sacrifice, you know that you’re able to be in the company of a pure and loving God after you die. You also know you’ll have the power of God’s Holy Spirit in your life right now. You may not feel or sense this presence yet, but you will. The Bible describes the job description of the Spirit: to offer comfort and healing, to guide into the truth, and to bring freedom and joy into your life.

Perhaps you prayed a prayer like the one above a long time ago, but you’ve drifted away from God. If you would like to recommit yourself to God, pray this simple prayer:

“Dear God, please forgive me for not living my life the way you want me to. I recommit myself to you right now, and I ask you to help me start living my life for you from this day forward. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

If you prayed either of these prayers, then we say HALLELUJAH! God is rejoicing over you right now! Nothing pleases the unseen heavenly kingdom more than when people entrust themselves into God’s care by putting their faith in Jesus.

Of course, being a God of relationships, the next step is to get connected to a community of God’s people. We’d be glad to help in your new or renewed relationship with God.
